Journal #1

This was a fairly interesting introductory chapter. I have worked in several non-profits and for my internship, I was taught what is needed to fund and run various non-profits. A concept that my supervisor heavily emphasized was grant-writing and overall inquiry for grants and donations since I have never had any grant-writing training, this class will be very useful to me. One thing that I found very interesting about the first chapter was the “reality check” box. More specifically, how it talked about how not all foundations are created equally and that even though it seems like it would be super important to focus on only the big corporation grants, you shouldn’t ignore the mid-size or even small grant. The second thing that I found interesting in this chapter was the proposal process. I didn’t know that they were so many individual steps that went into finding, creating, and getting a grant. But more specifically writing a grant proposal. The “Strategic follow-up” was something that never even entered my mind when I thought about what might potentially be in the grant writing proposal.
